FAQ’s

Do you need to see my dog’s behavioral issues during the evaluation?

The evaluation is more for us to get a better idea of what your personal relationship with your dog is like, what your daily routine with them entails, and what your training goals are for them. So, to answer your question, no—we’ve seen the issues before and will see it when we begin working with you.

Do you offer boarding?

We offer boarding (Structured Stay) only to clients who have already completed either our Board and Train program, or a Private Lesson Package and have followed through with the training beyond their programs with us. Our Structured Stay option is exactly what is sounds like! Your dog will be expected to stick to all of the structure/rules they learned during training with us.

What is the difference between a Structured Stay and Refresher Training?

During a Structured Stay, we will reinforce all of the basic rules and structure your dog already knows. This option is best for dogs who do not need additional training or for shorter stays (less than one week). During a Refresher Training program, trainers will be actively working with the dog, so this is a great option for dogs who need additional work on training, whether it be a reminder of the things they have learned in the past or new commands or training concepts, such as off-leash reliability. A one-week minimum stay is recommended for our Refresher Training option, as it gives our trainers ample time to work on things. A one week refresher or longer also comes with a free lesson for owners at pick-up.

How many Private Lessons will my dog need?

There are too many variables here for us to be able to give a direct answer. Number of lessons needed is dependent on what issues your dog needs to work through, how much time you are able to put into the training in between sessions, what your goals for your dog are, etc. Most clients start with at least a three-lesson package and then add additional lessons afterward if necessary.

Can I still purchase a lesson package if I want to do a combination of In-Home and In-Facility lessons?

Yes! If you wish to purchase a mixed lesson package, you’ll be responsible for paying the In-Facility package price at the start of the program, and then a travel fee of $70 will be charged on the days where lessons are held outside of the facility. *additional travel fees may apply depending on travel distance

How does virtual training work?

During Virtual Private Lessons, our trainers will coach you through how to make positive changes in your relationship with your dog and improve their behavior. These lessons are mainly discussion based, with demonstration of how to teach certain commands as well. This option works best for clients looking to teach their dog basic commands, or instill basic household manners, and clients who may not be able to meet for in person lessons. If your dog has more serious issues (ie: dog or human aggression, resource guarding, leash reactivity, etc.) a more hands-on program is recommended.

Who provides the food for my dog’s stay during Board and Train/Structured Stay/Refresher Training?

Clients are responsible for providing enough food for their dog’s stay, as well as specific feeding instructions.

What should I bring with me for my dog’s stay?

Clients are asked to bring enough food for their dog’s stay, any medications they may be on, and a deposit if your dog is here for our Board and Train program. We ask clients to keep it as minimal as possible! We provide food bowls, crates, blankets, beds, toys, etc. and ask that you do not bring any of that from home, unless otherwise asked.

What vaccinations are required for my dog to stay with you?

We require rabies and distemper (with leptospirosis) vaccines for your dog’s stay. Bordetella, as well as a flea/tick preventative are recommended, but not required.

How long will my dog need to stay for Board and Train?

Our Board and Train program is a three week minimum, but in some cases we will recommend a longer stay. This is very dog dependent, but some issues that usually warrant a fourth week or more include dog or human aggression, resource guarding, severe anxiety, or fearful cases. Our three week program is an on-leash program and does not guarantee off-leash reliability. If off-leash obedience is a goal of yours, a four week program (or more) is highly recommended.

Will my dog feel like I abandoned them or forget who I am?

Your dog will not feel abandoned by you. Dogs tend to be a little bit stressed/anxious when you first leave, but they settle in quickly. Having the other dogs here with them helps! Dogs live in the moment and tend to have a much easier time with it than us humans do. That being said, your dog will not forget who you are! We’ve been providing Board and Train services for over two years now, and there has never been a dog that wasn’t over the moon to be reunited with their owner after their program.

Can I visit my dog during the program?

Our Board and Train program includes a lesson halfway through the program, where owners will come to work with their dog for about an hour and start learning how they will reinforce the training once the dog goes home. We ask owners to keep in mind that this is a lesson, not a visitation. The focus during this hour is on working with your dog and learning about the training techniques. Outside of the scheduled mid-program lesson, visitations are prohibited unless recommended and scheduled by a trainer.

Will my dog still behave for me once they come home from a Board and Train?

By the time your Board and Train program is finished, you as the owner will have all of the tools and knowledge you need to reinforce all of the training your dog has learned over the course of their stay. The results you get from this program are highly dependent on your level of commitment to reinforcing everything at home. For example, if your dog ignores a command you give them and you allow them to do so without any consequence or follow-through, your dog will quickly learn that they can ignore you when you ask something of them. Clients who stay consistent get consistent results.  We are still here to support you after your dog’s program and you are welcome to schedule follow-up lessons as needed.

Is equipment included in the price of the program?

Equipment is a separate cost. Clients may purchase some equipment through us (e-collars, slip leads, place beds) or ask us for brand recommendations when purchasing on their own.
